OOM: Robin

His plans for the day are much the same as they are every day, at the moment - the business stuff is done, for the most part. So now; training, lunch, and working on the Batcave. His mind is already on these things as he leaves Milliways, and crosses the front hall of Wayne Manor to head for the wing with the gyms in.

As Bruce had left the young man at the bar, he assumed that the boy had been reaching for a chat device in his pocket.

This, Robin will reflect later, proves that Milliways is as safe as many people have told him it is. That he was able, in front of Batman, to palm a batarang, wait until Bruce was leaving the bar, and throw it into the hinges of the doorframe, just enough to stop the door closing completely.

Robin waits a few minutes - long enough for Bruce to clear the room beyond, before he follows, opening the door as carefully and as quietly as he can, shutting it behind him.

Bruce said there was a stable door. He has no reason to think he'll end up stuck in this reality.

When Robin was eleven years old, his Batman locked him out of the cave and the mansion, made him break in from the outside without tripping any of the security protocols that had also been completely overhauled. It was 'training' and it's what passes for a diversion at home.

That was two years ago, but he's thinking of it now. The front hall is familiar, but not familiar. Obviously Wayne Manor, but nothing like home at all.

Altogether whelming, Robin would say.

He takes his belt off from under his shirt, and slings it over his shoulder on the outside for easy access, then does what Robins do.

He uses a grappling hook to head upwards, landing so lightly on the chandelier it doesn't even swing.

Robin takes a second to get oriented, to figure out where he's at home and where he isn't. If it's like home there should be a library on the second floor, a few rooms away. That, and the grandfather clock inside, is where he's heading first.

Before he moves, he pulls out his own personal computer, disguised as a cell phone, and scans for signals. He doesn't expect to be able to interface directly with the security system, but it's worth a try. He's not disappointed when it fails.

Picking a direction, he somersaults off the chandelier to the top of the entrance stairs and runs onwards.

X makes her way back into Wayne Manor through the kitchen, pausing to take off her muddied boots. She's a little damp with sweat, but that is, in part, what training regimens are for.

Then, because some things are predictable (and comfortable), she heads down to the gym.

The chances of Bruce being there are pretty high.
daringyoungman: frowning thought ([Robin] meant to lead)

[personal profile] daringyoungman 2013-05-10 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The library's not where is should be. It is a few doors on, and Robin finds it by running, listening at each door, opening and closing silently.

He is distracted briefly by a study, and a seemingly out of place bust of William Shakespeare, but the next door along turns out to be the library he was looking for.

And there's the grandfather clock.

Robin stands in front of it, looking left and right and wondering how this got to be so easy, then he reaches up and sets the hands on the clock to 10.47.

...

Nothing.

Knew it wouldn't be that easy.

Meanwhile, X offers Bruce a one-shouldered shrug, quick and easy.

"It was useful."

That's the important bit. Most of the time.

She moves toward his position, passing the treadmill so that she can see his face. It's like saying hello!

She'll get to work on the heavy bag in a minute. Probably.

"You will be training? Today."

Does he have a plan, or would sparring be welcome?

[personal profile] daringyoungman 2013-05-10 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so setting the clock didn't work. Robin looks at it, considers setting it to a different time. Considers also leaving his mark so Bruce would be impressed by him.

Decides he'd be more impressed if he doesn't leave a trail. Decides also that leaving a clock in someone's house set for no discernible reason to the time their parents were murdered is - despite himself he grins at the pun - a dick move.

So he sets it back to the time it was on, and looks around the library again. He doesn't want to leave it yet.

There's a piano in the corner. Robin drops to the ground to see if it's connected to anything.

"It will not make me miserable."

Is she smiling, at least insofar as X smiles?

All signs point to 'maybe'.

"I have been practicing dodging."

Beat.

"With Thor."

daringyoungman: thinky ([Robin] lemme think about this)

[personal profile] daringyoungman 2013-05-10 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course, I'm such an idiot.."

That was more out of habit then for the benefit of anyone listening. Here is Robin, surrounded by books and he hasn't thought to look at any of them.

He doesn't look at them now. He just stands back, and thinks of his Bruce, his height, the way he moves. And makes minor adjustments for the Bruce he made in the bar, figuring out the most convenient height for him.

Of course, it'd need to be quick access for when one is in a hurry, and - Robin remembers the specific shape of the study next door and the distances between the doors in the corridor.

And it'd probably not be exactly obvious. More the book you wouldn't go for on first try.

So this...

No, this book. Robin taps the top of the spine.

"He is an alien. And my friend."

It does not seem strange to her.

"My world has one, too. But they are not the same."

This is not an understatement.

Oh man, that was such a rookie mistake!

And one he would not have made if he was infiltrating an actual supervillain's lair. But that's no consolation - Bruce is going to be mad.

Kicking himself, Robin pulls out his computer even as he runs into the cave. By the time he's takes three steps he has found the running security system and interfaced with it. By the time his grapple is out, he has bypassed most of the security.

The alarm goes off before Robin finishes his assent, and he crouches in the dark of the cave, switching out his glasses for his Robin mask, flipping on the NV setting.

Shouldn't take long.

X follows Bruce out of the gym at speed, but her path splits from his not much time later.

Covering both exits only makes sense.

And circumstances like these are what pre-arranged contingencies are for.

It helps that X is not going to suffer any damage from going through the masking waterfall.
daringyoungman: An R-rang, hidden in the back of his sweater ([Robin] like a boy scout)

[personal profile] daringyoungman 2013-05-10 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
From his vantage point, Robin surveys.

If the alarm had gone off in his Wayne Manor, indicating a violation into his Batcave, Batman and Robin would split up, Batman taking the entrance indicated by the alarm, and Robin, depending on where he was at the time, would take the dry well in the grounds or the cave for the Batmobile. Batman would do the big scary presence and he, the smaller, more easily underestimated partner, would disappear into the heights, catch the intruder from above or behind.

Well, Robin right now doesn't have an above, beyond the roof of the cave. And not only did Bruce not mention a son in the bar, but he saw no evidence of Dick Grayson in the manor. Not even a handheld game left lying around or a school portrait. So there's no reason to expect another Robin.

But he stays alert, having switched from NV to survey the cave (it looks empty, comparatively) to IR, to wait for Bruce to show.

[personal profile] cutting_edgex23 2013-05-10 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
X does not pause to shake water from her skin and clothes (and hair) as she slips past the waterfall, she just moves through and into the shadows.

Finding a vantage point would be a difficult prospect if she did not know the cave so well by now.

And, in terms of silence, she is most definitely not wearing a bell.

Her nostrils flare slightly as she scents the air while moving.

All intruders will leave a trace of some kind. At least on Bruce's world they should.

(In a world with aliens, magic-users, and gods, most bets are off.)

daringyoungman: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! ([Robin] disembodied laugh)

[personal profile] daringyoungman 2013-05-10 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
X.

That must be the person Robin just picked up moving by the far entrance. The sound suggests a waterfall in that direction, something his Batcave doesn't have.

But there's a lot of things missing that his Batcave does have. Half the arsenal, for one thing.

Bruce is at the computer, so Robin looks back over to the other person.

Whoah, they're fast.

With bat-like silence, he moves to another part of the darkness.

But not before he announces his presence with a loud, echoing laugh.

What? Hide and seek in the batcave is fun. Especially when the echoes make your position nearly impossible to pinpoint.
cutting_edgex23: ([solo] on the hunt (pretty))

[personal profile] cutting_edgex23 2013-05-10 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
X's nostrils flare again as she follows the intruder's scent trail, extrapolating his (teenage boy is relatively distinct) likely set of destinations from what she knows of the cave layout.

There may be several points in the cave that will let her get the drop on him.

But out of all the information his scent gives her, perhaps the most vital is this --

It is one she recognizes. From Milliways. Though she could not put a face (or a name) to it.

So before she moves too much farther, X pitches her voice loud enough to also echo (that laugh is very distracting) and says, "Milliways."

So that Bruce knows.

She vacates her current position mere milliseconds after she finishes speaking.
